Blueberry-Banana "Brain Booster" Smoothie
Blueberries have one of the highest antioxidant capacities of all fruits, veggies, spices and seasonings. They not only keep you looking young but improve your memory, support a healthy nervous system and postpone the onset of cognitive problems associated with aging. By using seasonal, sweet blueberries at their peak there's no need for any added sweeteners. Tossing in some freshly ground flax seeds will give you a healthful boost of omega 3's, fiber and protein without sacrificing any taste.

  • 3/4-1 cup frozen organic blueberries
  • 1 frozen organic banana
  • 3/4 cup fresh coconut water (I used the water from a Young Thai Coconut)
  • 1/4 cup of coconut meat (for added creaminess)
  • 1 Tbsp freshly ground flax seeds
  • 1 Tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 scoop organic raw whole grain sprouted vegan protein powder
  • 1.5 Tbsp maca root
Blend everything together, serve it up, and sip.

The Smoothie Series

Coffee Banana Smoothie
One of my favorite simple pleasures - a deliciously creamy smoothie - made with base ingredients you most likely already have in your kitchen. I've added some supplements and super foods to make this even more nutritious, but this smoothie would be great with just frozen organic bananas, chilled coffee and yogurt - simple and satisfying. Pair it with homemade granola or drink it alone, as I did this morning. Either way you've got a quick and easy breakfast on-the-go.

  • 3/4 cup freshly brewed organic coffee (I used decaf) - chill for an hour before using
  • 1-2 frozen organic bananas
  • 1 Tbsp plain organic Greek yogurt
  • 1 Tbsp freshly ground flaxseed (added essential fatty acids and fiber)
  • 1 Tbsp chia seeds (balances blood sugar, healthy omega-3's, added antioxidants, energy-giving)
  • 1 Tbsp wheat germ (added B vitamins, fiber, iron and other minerals)
  • 1/2 scoop organic raw whole grain sprouted vegan protein powder
  • 1 probiotic supplement capsule, emptied into blender (for digestive health)
  • optional: organic raw vanilla bean
Blend everything together, serve it up, and sip.
